June 27, 2003

Today, Air Canada officially launched its new direct non-stop service to and from Toronto at the Deer Lake Regional Airport. This new summer service, which will depart four times weekly to Toronto, will utilize the 100 seat Boeing 737 aircraft. The service will connect to other Air Canada destinations such as Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray and Vancouver.

This new service is in addition to the regular Air Canada Jazz Dash-8 and Bae 146 jet service which operates three (3) times daily to and from Halifax with connections throughout Air Canada’s extensive route network.

The Chairman of the Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority, Mr. Carl Stratton, is very pleased with this additional service. “We have always had strong support for a direct service to and from Toronto during the busy summer tourist season”, said Stratton. “This new service will provide a valuable link for tourist operators and visitors to the area,” added Stratton.

Jamie Schwartz, Airport Manager, is equally pleased with the frequency and direct route. “This is the only direct non-stop service to and from Toronto in Western Newfoundland,” said Schwartz. “We are very excited that residents and visitors will have the opportunity to fly direct to and from Toronto four times each week during the summer,” added Schwartz.

The Deer Lake Regional Airport now offers fifteen regularly scheduled passenger flights each day throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and Eastern and Central Canada with connections worldwide. A total of four different airlines; Air Canada Jazz, Air Labrador, CanJet Airlines and Provincial Airlines, now operate a regular service to and from Deer Lake. The Deer Lake Regional Airport is one of only a few remaining airports in Canada that does not collect or charge an airport improvement or passenger facilitation fee.
