Deer Lake Regional Airport Releases Positive Financials March 12, 2003
Carl
Stratton, Chairman of the Board of Directors, reported that the Airport
Authority ended its fourth year of operation with an excess of revenue
over expenditures. The audited statements presented during the meeting
disclosed an operating surplus of $184,469 on revenues of $1,569,717.
“This marks the third consecutive year that the Authority has operated
with a modest surplus”, stated Stratton. “This is significant
when you consider that the Deer Lake Regional Airport does not generate
revenue by charging or collecting Airport Improvement Fees from its passengers.
Most airports in Canada under privatization have had to implement passenger
fees to help sustain their operations”, added Stratton. Jamie
Schwartz, Airport Manager, attributes much of the operational success
to date on a number of factors. “First of all, we have a very competent
and efficient group of employees who have adapted extremely well to the
changes in our operation”, said Schwartz. “Our infrastructure
is also well matched to our level of service and we are very fortunate
that passenger traffic and airline service continues to grow and be well
supported”, added Schwartz.The
Deer Lake Regional Airport now serves Western Newfoundland with fifteen
regularly scheduled passenger flights each day to destinations including
St. John’s, Goose Bay, and Halifax with connections worldwide. A
total of four different airlines; Air Canada Jazz, Air Labrador, CanJet
Airlines and Provincial Airlines, now offer a regular service to and from
Deer Lake. For
immediate release. |
