| Deer Lake Airport Authority Recognizes Employee Service
The Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority recently established an Employee Long-Term Service Awards Program to recognize the valuable contribution of its employees to the airport operation both prior to transfer of the airport from Transport Canada and during the past four years of privatization. Under the program, which became effective December 1, 2002, employees will receive a monetary award and certificate of service for every five-year anniversary employment period up to and including 35 years of service. Employees receiving awards during the initial implementation period include; Derek Janes and Debbie Chaulk – 5 years; Bruce Curlew and Wilf Curlew – 10 years; Rod Reid – 15 years; Christine Janes and Tony Carroll – 20 years; and Barry King and Terry Bennett – 25 years. Mr. Carl Stratton, Chairman of the Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority, had high praise for the airport employees. “Our success thus far is directly attributed to a very capable and efficient staff complement we presently have at the airport,” said Stratton. “We are fortunate to have a small but competent workforce and this program is an opportunity for us to recognize and acknowledge their valuable service,” added Stratton. The Deer Lake Regional Airport now offers regular passenger service from Provincial Airlines, Air Canada Jazz, Air Labrador and CanJet. The Deer Lake Regional Airport is one of only a few remaining airports in Canada that does not charge or collect an Airport Improvement Fee or Passenger Facilitation Fee.
